The hospital checklist can be a bit overwhelming. What to bring, what not to bring and what do you actually need. Here are my top 3 items to add to your hospital bag right now.

1) Boppy Pillow

The Boppy was single handedly the most amazing gift I received as a new mother. I was determined to breastfeed but as a first time mother, getting the hang of the hold, position and technique was overwhelming. In came the Boppy, this magical C shaped nursing pillow allowed me to position and support my son with ease and made breastfeeding so much easier. Why take to the hospital? During the first couple of days in the hospital you will have access to lactation consultants who will help get you through the first days of breastfeeding. The Boppy allows you to have proper support and position, allowing you and the lactation consultant to focus on items such as latching, technique and milk flow.

2) Lip Balm

I know, completely random, but if you are like me and have to have lip balm with you at all times, it is important to make sure you pack in your hospital bag. I always have 1, 2 or 10 tubes of lip balm in my purse but since patients are discouraged from bringing purses and valuables into the hospital, make sure you have lip balm in your hospital bag to avoid any of those "oh my goodness, I don’t have lip balm" freak out moments.

3) Socks

You may be in labor for quite a while; which means you could be up and down pacing, standing up and moving around the room. A nice fuzzy pair of socks will keep your feet warm and allow you to get in and out of bed without having to worry about slippers.

I hope my top 3 items to add to your hospital bag right now are helpful. There are lists everywhere of what you should pack in your hospital bag but these items are things I thought could easily be forgotten but make a big impact in comfort during labor and delivery or in your first days of being a new mommy.
