The best breast pump is the option best suited to fit your lifestyle. When considering the different features, keep in mind how the breast pump can fit your needs.

A few important things to keep in mind.

  • If any of the dimensions are bigger than 7 inches, the actual breast pump is about the size of a lunch box. You’ll probably need a dedicated bag.
  • It is unlikely you’ll need to use the breast pump at maximum strength. Matching how your baby nurses is a better way to fully express your milk. Adjusting the pump up to its maximum strength might be uncomfortable or even painful.
  • An open system and closed system pump work the same way. Both types are regulated by the FDA, so they’re both perfectly safe for you and your baby. An open system might take a little more care.

When picking a pump some important questions to ask yourself are:

  1. How often will I tote it back and forth in a week?
  2. How often will I use the breast pump in a day?
  3. Will I have a dedicated space to use my breast pump every time?

If you need a portable breast pump, pay close attention to the dimensions. If you will use the pump several times a day, consider a good warranty. If you do not have a dedicated spot to use the breast pump, make sure your pump has a battery option.
