The Affordable Care Act provides for breastfeeding supplies, support and counseling. Through this provision most commercial insurance plans that began on or after August 1, 2012 are providing personal double electric breast pumps to mothers. One thing a mother may not be aware of is that the retail pumps you see in the aisle of Babies R Us and Target are not always the same pumps you receive under the Affordable Care Act. Many manufacturers such as Medela, Hygeia and Ameda, provide insurance grade pumps that include all necessary parts and accessories to begin pumping. While working with the team at Aeroflow Healthcare to receive your breast pump, you will be able to choose the basic model of pump which will include the pump, tubing, adapter, bottle caps, flanges, bottles and locking ring for your breast pump. You will also have the option to upgrade to models that have additional accessories that are not covered by insurance such as battery adapters, tote bags and breast milk coolers sets.
As a woman who has a slight addiction to purses, I thought I would share how to use a purse as a breast pump bag so you have the option to take the basic insurance grade pump and turn a purse into you breast pump bag. You, of course, also have the option to upgrade to one of the pumps that includes a bag from the manufacturer, but if you are like me, you probably have a stylish bag in your closet that will meet your need or are looking for an excuse to find a great new purse. As a mother I always feel like I am already carrying around too much stuff, so if I can find a dual purpose purse/pump bag, I am all for it.
If you are looking to use a purse as a breast pump bag, here are some tips to remember:
