One major misconception is that the more you will be pumping, the more likely you are to need a hospital grade pump. This is not necessarily true, as most double and single electric breast pumps feature a motor that is plenty strong to help you express milk efficiently. Personal use breast pumps are more widely available, less costly, and are usually the better option for moms who don't need a hospital grade pump for medical reasons. That being said, you should always consult with your healthcare provider or physician in regards to what would be best for you and your baby.
Most hospital grade pumps are only available for rental due to their higher cost. Aeroflow Breastpumps offers moms two of the top hospital grade breast pumps: the Medela Symphony and the Hygeia EnRiche.
The Medela Symphony offers 2-phase technology, which is designed for long-term daily use. With this pump, you have the option to double or single pump. This model has adjustable speed/vacuum combinations, hands-free pumping options (you have to purchase the Easy Expression bustier separately), and all parts that come into contact with breast milk are BPA-free.
The Hygeia EnRiche is a closed system and is built to protect baby from contaminants. The Enriche is designed for double or single pumping and features adjustable speed and suction controls. All parts that come in contact with breast milk are BPA and DEHP free.
With so many breast pumps on the market, it can be very difficult to come to a decision about which is best suited to fit the needs of you and your baby. Consult your physician or lactation consultant, and do your research. Make sure to consider how long you plan to breastfeed, and whether or not your insurance company will cover the cost of a hospital grade pump rental for that long (many insurance companies will not cover the purchase of a personal use pump and a rental of a hospital grade pump for the same birth, even with a mothers of multiples).
Because of the health benefits of breastfeeding and the medical requirement of a hospital grade pump, many health insurance companies will cover the cost of a rental for a few months, or even for as long as medically necessary, at little or no cost to patients. To find out if you qualify for a pump, simply complete our three-step Qualify Through Insurance form. One of our Breastpump Specialists will contact you with your network status and breast pump options within 1-3 business days.
Keep in mind that regardless of your situation or decision, breast is best, and that’s exactly what you’ve chosen to give your baby!
