Your insurance plan & benefits

One vital piece of information to keep in mind is that everyone’s insurance is different. For example, suppose you have an Aetna plan. There are multiple diverse plans within Aetna that will have varying benefits. Another thing to make a mental note of is what type of insurance plan you have. The majority of plans are grouped by whether they are Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans or Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) plans.

PPO plans

PPO plans are programs where services from healthcare practitioners are offered at reduced costs. When using an in-network provider, the member usually pays little or no fees to use the services with these types of plans.

HMO plans

HMO plans, on the other hand, are when members must use a narrower list of health care providers as they have paid a flat fee to do so. Typically, members with HMO plans do not have to worry about reaching deductibles before being able to utilize services for free.
