Congratulations mommy, you’ve made it through your pregnancy and your beautiful new addition has arrived.  Now you are ready to box up those maternity clothes and hop back into your old clothes, not so fast.  If you happen to be one of the genetically blessed who walk out of the hospital in your pre-pregnancy clothes, congrats to you.  For the rest of us, remember it took 9 months for your body to go through this incredible transformation and it can take quite a while to get back into those pre-pregnancy clothes. The great news is, your maternity clothes also make great breastfeeding gear.

If you are anything like I was after giving birth to my son, your days and nights run together in a sleepless fog and you are not even sure if you remembered to shower today.

Nursing Wardrobe

Here are some helpful tips as you try and figure out what to wear and how to convert your wardrobe into nursing clothing.

  1. Don’t box up your maternity clothes too soon.  Those log maternity tank tops come in handy to wear under cardigans or wrap shirts for  easy breastfeeding access.
  2. Maternity jeans, yoga pants and leggings can be your friends for several weeks after giving birth especially if you had a c-section and need a little extra room.
  3. V neck sun dresses work well for breastfeeding.  If you feel like you are not getting enough support, thrown on a nursing tank underneath and you will still have easy access for nursing.
  4. Take a peak in your husband’s closet.  I found a couple of comfy broken-in button ups and rolled up the sleeves and paired with leggings and boots.

Remember mommy, you are beautiful and your body is still changing and adjusting.  Take the time to inventory your pre-pregnancy and maternity wardrobe and I bet you will be able to convert your wardrobe into breastfeeding clothes quite easily.
