Being told your baby is breech can be a frightening experience. While it is common for a baby to be breech at different times throughout pregnancy, approximately 3 percent of babies will remain in a breech position during the 30th week and onward. First, it is important to understand the three types of breech babies.
There are many methods you can use to try and turn a breech baby. If you’re past 30 weeks try the following helpful tips:
The objective is to put your pelvis above your head. You can do this by placing cushions on the floor or using an ironing board against the couch. Keep your hips elevated approximately 1 ½ feet above your head. Try “the tilt” 10 to 15 minutes 3 times per day.
There is a MP3 Series called Hypobabies that is aimed to using hypnosis techniques to create a more relaxing and comfortable birthing experience. They have an MP3 titled “Turn Baby Turn” that specifically assists with turning your breech baby. In the article, “How to Turn a Breech Baby,” the author Genevieve writes, “I can’t say enough about this technique. It created a profound and peaceful connection between me and Griffin, ensuring an optimal and loving unison throughout the flipping process. It’s a great technique to create calm and reduce anxiety, for both.”
Some moms swear by this technique. Water aerobics can help you re-position your baby in the womb. This makes 39-week pregnant handstands a possibility!
For this technique you must go to a professionally certified chiropractor. This gentle adjustment to the pelvis and sacrum reduces what’s called uterine torsion and balances the muscles in your pelvic region. Once your muscles are relaxed it will be easier for your baby to move out of a breech position.
This technique must be performed by your healthcare provider. Essentially EVC is like an abdominal massage that manipulates the baby so that he can flip over. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the average success rate is 58 percent.
This technique has been around for thousands of years. An acupuncturist will use heat from a burning herb and stick tiny needles in both sides of your pinky toes to increase fetal activity.
