Breastfeeding Tips for New Moms

All mommies-to-be and even moms who have breastfed before have questions, and Aeroflow Breastpumps has answers.  Whether you’re concerned with what to eat, or how much to sleep, Aeroflow wants to guide you in making the healthiest choices for yourself and baby. We have compiled some of the best breastfeeding tips we could find to assist you and your family along the way to providing your child with the best nutrition possible.

Breastfeeding

Doctors recommend breastfeeding (or pumping and bottle feeding) exclusively for the first six months of your baby’s life. Breastfeeding can help you bond with your child, and also gives them nutrients that help develop their immune system. Your breast milk is perfectly balanced to give your baby what he or she needs; your nutrition is vital to keeping this up! Make sure when you make your plate you have a balanced meal. Whole grains, lean protein, and a lot of vegetables are key to producing the right amount of milk for your baby.

Getting Enought Rest

One of our favorite breastfeeding tips: Sleep is also pertinent. If you feel exhausted – rest! Your body will burn an addition 500-800 calories per day while breastfeeding which can exhaust you. If you are not well rested, you are more prone to sickness and stress – both of which can decrease your milk supply. Sleeping while your baby sleeps is the best way to ensure you’re getting the rest you need. Most babies start to sleep for longer periods of time throughout the night around 3-6 months.

A few more quick tips to get you through the trials, joys and tribulations of first time breast feeding:

  • Avoid comparison
  • Trust yourself
  • Get a Boppy
  • Your pump can help with problems
  • Keep at it-even if you have a cold
  • Practice nursing in public
