Humana Insurance Guidelines for Breast Pumps

Per the Affordable Care Act, many insurance companies cover breastfeeding equipment and supplies at little to no cost to patients as a preventative benefit. Humana Insurance works hard to help members lead healthy, active, and rewarding lives by giving incredible coverage at competitive rates. Because of this, Humana has expanded their role as a provider in the insurance industry and communities they serve by making great strides in creating healthcare systems that work for everyone.

Aeroflow Breastpumps has partnered with Humana and Humana Beginnings to provide patients with breastfeeding equipment and supplies, pregnancy support and postpartum compression, and breastfeeding support and education.

How Early Can I Get My Breast Pump?

You will need a prescription in order to get your breast pump, but it's no problem! Our Specialists will handle it for you, and will send a prescription request directly to your doctor on your behalf.

Note: It may take some time to obtain your prescription from your doctor, so it is a good idea to submit your information early!.

Humana insurance guidelines do require that a patient reaches 30 weeks gestation before they can receive their breast pump. This may be frustrating to some moms who like to have things prepared soon as possible, but is often a good thing — all of our breast pumps come with warranties through the manufacturer, and you don’t want your warranty time to run out while the pump is sitting on the shelf prior to your delivery date.

Benefits of Using a Breast Pump

We all know that breastfeeding has lots of health benefits for mom and baby, and with how busy our schedules have become, a lot of mothers choose to pump for a variety of reasons. Pumping is a great way to ensure baby is still getting nature’s best nutrition while allowing mom to go back to work or school, or for family and loved ones to join in the bonding experience of feeding via bottle. This is also a great way to increase breast milk production for moms (by power pumping, which closely mimics cluster feeding — this is when baby nurses frequently and in short bursts to naturally stimulate mommy’s milk production).

Additional Insurance-Covered Benefits Through Humana

When you fill out our Qualify Through Insurance Form to get your breast pump through insurance, we automatically check your eligibility for additional motherhood essentials, like new breast pump supplies, pregnancy and postpartum compression items, and lactation education! If you’re eligible for any of these items, we’ll reach out to let you know how to take advantage of these benefits.

  • Breast Pump Supplies Coverage
Humana covers replacement supplies for your breast pump. This covers all of the parts that connect to the breast pump motor, including tubing, flanges, and valves. If your Humana plan qualifies for this benefit, we will notify you via email and phone approximately 30 days after your due date so you can easily place your order for free additional supplies.
  • Pregnancy and Postpartum Compression Coverage
Aeroflow Breastpumps provides pregnancy support, postpartum recovery garments, and compression socks. These are all medical-grade garments that have been designed by healthcare professionals to provide support, relief, and stabilization for increased comfort during pregnancy and to assist with postpartum healing and swelling. These garments are a DME benefit, meaning they’re subject to copay and deductible, and your Humana health plan may cover this as well! We’ll let you know what your options are and how to get the pregnancy and postpartum compression items you qualify for!
  • Lactation Education
If your Humana plan covers lactation support and education, we will contact you to let you know your options for classes you’re eligible to attend with our certified educators. Being prepared and ready to troubleshoot any issues you may run into as you embark on your breastfeeding journey can make all the difference in meeting your breastfeeding or pumping goals.

If your policy does not cover breast pumps or other motherhood items you're interested in, we can still help! Aeroflow Breastpumps strives to provide the best products at the lowest prices to patients. Check out our website full of breastfeeding equipment and supplies.
